Hello! My name is Romel Smith, and I proudly hail from the vibrant community of Regina Essequibo Coast in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a miner, I work hard to support my family and contribute to our local economy. However, my heart lies not just in the land but in the rich culture and warmth of our people. Whether it’s sharing a meal of pepperpot or enjoying the fresh catch from the Essequibo River, I find joy in the simple pleasures that life in Guyana offers.
Our beautiful country often gets overshadowed by negative perceptions, but I believe it's the stories of our welcoming communities, breathtaking landscapes, and delicious food that truly define us. From the lively streets of Georgetown to the serene beauty of the Corentyne region, including must-visit spots like New Amsterdam and Rose Hall, there’s so much to cherish about Guyana. I’m always thrilled to hear from those who visit and experience our hospitality firsthand—like the many diaspora members who carry a piece of Guyana in their hearts, no matter where they are in the world.
As I continue my journey in life and work, I remain committed to sharing the beauty of my homeland with others.
