Greetings! I’m Ruel August, a proud Guyanese porter hailing from the beautiful Pomeroon region of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant culture of my homeland, I have developed a deep appreciation for our rich heritage. From the lively festivals celebrating our diverse ancestry to the tantalizing flavors of our local cuisine — think cook-up rice and fresh fish curry — every aspect of life here reminds me of the warmth and spirit that define our people.
My work as a porter allows me to connect with visitors from around the world, sharing not just the beauty of our landscapes like the mesmerizing Pom River, but also the stories of resilience and community that resonate within us. I often reflect on how our history is intertwined with our neighbors, from the time when regions were known by names like British Guiana and Dutch Guiana, to today’s global diaspora that binds us together. As we navigate these connections, I find joy in bringing a piece of Guyana to every interaction.
Outside of work, I enjoy exploring the natural wonders around me, whether it's taking a peaceful canoe ride down Lower Akawini Creek or visiting the historic Grant Glenhurst area. These moments remind me of our roots and the importance of preserving our cultural identity. I look forward to sharing my journey and the essence of Guyana with you!
