Welcome to my corner of the world! My name is Rukminie Persaud, and I proudly call Wakenaam, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of this area has shaped my love for our local traditions, especially the tantalizing flavors of our cuisine. From the spicy fish curry to the cherished pepperpot, every dish tells a story of our rich heritage and the diverse communities that call Guyana home.
As a resident of Wakenaam, I feel deeply connected to the rivers and mangroves that define our island life. I enjoy sharing the beauty of our natural surroundings, as well as the warmth of our community, with visitors and fellow Guyanese, be they near or far. Engaging with the diaspora has always been important to me; it reminds us of the resilience and spirit we carry, especially when reflecting on our country's history and the strides we've made since the days of colonialism and foreign influences.
In my daily life, I strive to foster connections that honor our past while looking forward to our future. Whether it's discussing the impact of oil discoveries on our economy, or simply enjoying a festive gathering with friends and family, I believe in celebrating all that makes Guyana unique. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
