Hello! I’m Sahadeo Sookoo, a farmer rooted in the rich soil of East Bank Essequibo’s Parika Backdam. My life revolves around cultivating the land and sharing the fresh, vibrant produce that reflects the lush beauty of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the greenery of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I carry the spirit of our diverse culture with me, whether I’m tending to my crops or preparing a delicious meal of pepperpot and roti for my family. Just like many of my fellow Guyanese, I take pride in our culinary heritage, and nothing beats a good cook-up rice on a Sunday!
Living in this beautiful region, I often think of the vibrant communities that make up our nation. From the bustling markets in Georgetown to the tranquil shores of the Pomeroon River, our landscapes tell stories of resilience and connection. I cherish the moments spent with my family, who hail from Region 1, and those from the diaspora who carry our culture abroad. We share a common bond through our heritage, celebrating the unique blend of Indigenous, African, East Indian, and European influences that define us.
