Greetings! My name is Saleen Mohamed, and I proudly call Regina Essequibo Coast 34 New Housing Scheme home, nestled in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a dedicated labourer, I embrace the hardworking spirit that defines our community. Living in such a culturally rich area allows me to connect with the land and its people, where we often gather to enjoy delicious local dishes like duck curry and freshly harvested cashews from nearby hills. Whether it’s enjoying a hearty meal or sharing stories about our beautiful landscapes, there’s always a sense of camaraderie among us.
Growing up surrounded by the natural beauty of places like the Pomeroon River and Karawab Creek, I have developed a deep appreciation for our environment and the abundant wildlife, including manatees and jaguars, that inhabit it. I take pride in our unique identity as the only English-speaking country in South America, which offers a blend of cultures and traditions reflecting our diverse heritage. This includes the rich history of our towns, such as New Amsterdam, which highlights our Dutch influences.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I remain connected to my roots and cherish the bonds we form, both at home and abroad. With every visit from family and friends, we share the warmth of our culture, be it through lively conversations or reminiscing over a plate of our local favorites.
