Hello! My name is Shimron Samuels, and I proudly call Hill in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant cultures of this beautiful country has shaped who I am today. There's something truly special about the way we come together as a community, celebrating our diverse heritage through food, music, and festivities. Some of my fondest memories include enjoying a hearty plate of cook-up rice and metemgee, often shared with family and friends.
As a resident of Guyana, I’m deeply connected to our rich history and the unique blend of cultures that define us—whether it’s the Indian, Portuguese, Chinese, or Indigenous influences. I find joy in introducing others to our local flavors, like pepperpot and roti, and sharing stories of our beloved landmarks, such as the majestic Kaieteur Falls and the serene Rupununi Savannah. It’s these experiences that make Guyana a truly fascinating place to live and explore.
While I appreciate the challenges and complexities that our nation has faced, I remain optimistic about our future. As someone who values the bonds formed within our diaspora, I’m always excited to connect with fellow Guyanese, whether they're here or abroad. Whether it’s reminiscing about a childhood spent by the rivers or seeking out a good bottle of XM rum, I love keeping our culture alive and vibrant in every conversation.
Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
