Greetings from the lush landscapes of Essequibo! My name is Shanaza Lowe, and I am proud to call Pomeroon-Supenaam home. Nestled between the majestic rivers and rich biodiversity, my community embodies the spirit of resilience and warmth that defines Guyana. Growing up here has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our diverse cultures, vibrant traditions, and the tantalizing flavors of our local cuisine. Whether it's savoring a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or sharing stories under the starry skies, every moment spent in Guyana is a celebration of our roots.
As a resident of Essequibo, I am passionate about fostering connections within our diaspora. Many of us might find ourselves scattered across Canada and the USA, yet we carry the essence of Guyana with us wherever we go. I often hear from fellow Guyanese who reminisce about our beautiful rivers, like the Yarashirima, and the rich history of places such as St. Monica. These connections remind us that no matter where we are, we are always tied to our homeland.
As Guyana stands on the brink of new developments—often referred to as the "Black Gold" era—I believe it's essential to ensure that the benefits of progress reach all corners of our society.
