Hello! I’m Sherefa Fredericks, a proud resident of the River Yarashirima Settlement in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana has deeply shaped my identity. I cherish every moment spent enjoying our delicious local cuisine, from mouthwatering cook-ups to the iconic pepperpot, and I often reminisce about the bustling markets where we used to gather fresh ingredients. It’s no wonder I can’t even write you sausage without feeling nostalgic!
My heart beats for the culture that runs through our veins—whether it's the rhythms of our tassa music, the rich stories told by our elders, or the stunning sights of our iconic landmarks. I often think of Central Georgetown and how it has evolved, reflecting both the challenges we face and the resilience of our people. It pains me to see some of our beloved locations turning into shadows of their former selves. Yet, I remain hopeful and committed to celebrating the beauty of our country and sharing our stories with the diaspora, just like my friends do when they reminisce about places like Sybil’s in Queens.
