Greetings! My name is Sherryann Gonsalves, and I proudly call the lush landscapes of River Grant Vryheid Jacklow in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant culture of Guyana, I have always appreciated the rich traditions that make our nation unique, from the tantalizing flavors of pepperpot and curry to the lively rhythms of our folk music. As a resident, I take great pride in sharing the beauty of Guyana with those around me, whether it's through the mouth-watering taste of the local cuisine or the warmth of our hospitality. Despite sometimes being perceived as a lesser-known destination, our country is a treasure trove of natural resources and cultural wealth. I often remind those who see us through a narrow lens that we are custodians of the gold and other minerals that flourish beneath our feet and that our spirit is as rich as our land.
Living abroad now, I cherish the connections I've made within the Guyanese diaspora. It’s inspiring to see how we uplift each other, celebrating our heritage while forging new pathways in distant places. Whether it’s a shared laugh over a plate of cook-up rice or reminiscing about our beloved landmarks like the Essequibo River or Kaieteur Falls, I continue to carry the essence of Guyana with me, bridging distances with every story and meal shared.
