Hello! I'm Shonette Smith, a dedicated teacher residing in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up along the vibrant Coast 135 Nightingale Street, I’ve always been surrounded by the rich culture and diversity that make our country unique. From savoring the flavors of our local dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice to engaging with the warm community spirit during festivals, my life is deeply intertwined with the traditions and experiences of Guyanese culture.
As an educator, I strive to inspire my students to embrace their heritage while equipping them with the skills to thrive in an ever-changing world. I believe in the power of education to connect people beyond borders, especially for those of us in the diaspora. It warms my heart to know that fellow Guyanese like Amanda from Lower Pomeroon, or those who share memories of the Essequibo River, are eager to maintain those ties no matter where they are in the world.
When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me exploring the stunning landscapes of our country or sharing stories with friends and family about our rich history. Whether it’s reminiscing about our unique experiences or discussing how we can support one another, I cherish every opportunity to connect with both locals and the wider Guyanese community abroad. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
