Hello! My name is Shurland James, and I proudly call the River Curimeru Settlement in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a farmer, I’m deeply connected to the land, cultivating crops that reflect the rich bounty of our region. Whether it's planting hearty cassava or tending to my beloved pepper plants, each day in the fields allows me to appreciate the beauty of Guyana’s nature and the vital role agriculture plays in our culture and economy.
Growing up in this vibrant community, I cherish the stories and traditions that bind us together. From the delicious aroma of cook-up rice during family gatherings to the lively celebrations at the Karawab and Warakabra hills, I feel a strong connection to my fellow Guyanese. I often reminisce about the gatherings by the Pomeroon River, where we share not just food but laughter and the warmth of community, even as many of us navigate life in the diaspora.
As a proud Guyanese, I recognize the challenges we face, including issues around waste management and public transport. Yet, I remain hopeful and committed to making a difference in our environment and society. I’m excited to connect with others who share my passion for our culture and work towards a brighter future for our beloved Guyana.
