Hello! I’m Somawattie Kishore, a proud educator from the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, specifically from the Coast 15 Public Road in Somerset. Growing up in this vibrant community, I have cherished the rich cultural heritage that defines us—from the sweet aroma of pepperpot simmering during Diwali to the lively rhythms of our folk music echoing through the streets. It’s these experiences that inspire my teaching and instill a sense of belonging in my students.
As a teacher, my goal is to empower the next generation with knowledge while nurturing their connection to our roots. I believe in the importance of sharing our stories—like those of the Upper Pomeroon River and the warmth of our people—so that they understand where they come from. I often reminisce about the close-knit communities, the love we had for each other, and the resilience we showed even during tough times, as many in the diaspora echo in their comments about our beloved homeland.
Through my work, I strive to foster an environment where my students can embrace their heritage and feel proud to be Guyanese. Whether it’s celebrating Mashramani or enjoying a plate of cook-up rice, I encourage them to appreciate the beauty of our culture and history. Together, we're building a brighter future while honoring the past—because, despite the changes in our beloved Guyana, our sense of community and love for each other remains strong.
