My name is Tamika Fraser, and I'm a passionate teacher dedicated to nurturing the minds of our youth in the vibrant community of Reliance, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of the Rupununi savannas and the rich cultural heritage of our people, I’ve always believed that education is a powerful tool for empowerment and growth. As a proud Guyanese, I cherish our local cuisine, from the satisfying flavors of pepperpot to the sweet embrace of our beloved guyanese cassava pone. Food plays a vital role in our community, and I often use cooking sessions to teach not only culinary skills but also the importance of sharing meals together, just like we do during our vibrant festivals. This cultural connection fosters a sense of unity, reminding us of our motto: 'One People, One Nation,' and the diverse backgrounds that make us who we are.
Living in Canada as part of the diaspora has further enriched my perspectives, allowing me to bridge cultural gaps and celebrate our heritage.
