Hello! I’m Raymond Tobin, a craftsman based in the beautiful region of Landing, Barima-Waini. Growing up in the heart of Guyana, I've always been inspired by the rich natural resources around me, from the lush rainforests to the flowing waters of the Pom River. My work reflects a blend of traditional techniques and local materials, allowing me to create pieces that resonate with the vibrant culture of my homeland.
In my craft, I draw upon the traditions passed down through generations, incorporating elements of Guyanese life, such as the joyous celebration of Mashramani and the delectable flavors of pepperpot and cassava bread. I believe that every item I create tells a story and carries a piece of our heritage, whether it’s a beautifully carved wooden piece or a handcrafted woven basket. I often reminisce about the bustling markets in Georgetown, where the air is filled with the aroma of fresh spices and the sounds of lively conversations, reminding me of the strong connection we share, both at home and in the diaspora.
