About VARSHANIE BALKARAN

About Varshanie Balkaran

Hello! I’m Varshanie Balkaran, a dedicated teacher hailing from the beautiful Coast C Truck Line Dam in Pomeroon-Supenaam. As a proud Guyanese, I am deeply connected to my roots and the rich cultural heritage of our diverse nation. From the mouthwatering pepper pot that speaks of our Indigenous heritage to the delightful roti and curries brought by our East Indian community, I cherish every bite of the culinary traditions that make our country unique. Whether it’s the cook-up rice favored by many or the fried rice and chow mein that reflect our Chinese influence, food is a central part of our communal life.

Living in Guyana, I find immense joy in sharing our breathtaking landscapes and landmarks with others. Our country is home to natural wonders like the Iwokrama rainforest and the majestic Harpy Eagle, a symbol of our vibrant wildlife. I encourage everyone to visit our historic Fort, built by the Dutch, French, and British, and witness the remarkable developments our country is undergoing, particularly with the recent boom in the oil and gas sector under the leadership of President Irfaan Ali.

As an educator, my passion is not just in teaching subjects but also in instilling pride and respect for our culture in my students. I believe in fostering connections, both locally and within the diaspora, as we share a common love for our homeland. We often refer to one another as “aunt” and “uncle,” which reflects the warmth and respect inherent in our society. I invite you to join me in celebrating the beauty of Guyana, a place where every corner has a story and every dish has a history.
