Hello! My name is Shurlan Viveiros, and I am proud to call Mission, Barima-Waini my home. As a dedicated teacher, I strive to inspire the next generation to appreciate not only their studies but also the rich cultural heritage of our beautiful Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of the jungle and the serene rivers, I’ve developed a deep love for our environment. My days often include sharing stories of our vibrant traditions, from enjoying a hearty meal of pepperpot to celebrating our unique festivals that highlight our diverse backgrounds.
The beauty of Guyana is something I hold dear, but I also recognize the challenges we face. As I engage with my students, I emphasize the importance of taking care of our surroundings and advocating for a cleaner, greener future. Together, we discuss the pressing need for support in mental health, education, and community well-being—issues that resonate deeply with many Guyanese, both at home and in the diaspora.
Whether we reminisce about the sweet scent of fresh mangoes at the market or the excitement of POM River festivities, my goal is to foster a sense of connection and pride in our heritage. Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
