Hello! I’m Vivian Richards, a proud Guyanese labourer living in the beautiful Lower Pom River on Myrie Island, Wakapau, in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. My life is deeply intertwined with the rhythms of the river and the vibrant culture of my homeland. Growing up, I was surrounded by the rich flavors of our cuisine, especially the delightful dhal puri, which never fails to remind me of home. Whether it’s the spicy aroma of pepperpot or the sweet taste of essekee boo, food is more than just sustenance; it’s a celebration of our heritage.
Having spent 22 years in Albouystown before returning home, I carry the spirit of the diaspora with me, cherishing the connections I’ve made with fellow Guyanese worldwide. Like many, I’ve experienced the unique challenges and joys that come with our shared history. The recent oil discoveries off our coast have sparked conversations about the future of our small yet resilient nation, and I can’t help but feel hopeful for the opportunities that lie ahead for us and our community.
In my free time, you’ll find me enjoying the simplicity of life on the river or engaging in discussions with my neighbors about the latest happenings in our beloved Guyana.
