Hello! I’m Wanda Thomas, a dedicated teacher living in the beautiful River Myrie Island, located in the heart of Wakapau, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up around the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture, from the sweet taste of pepperpot at Christmas to the rhythmic beats of our local music. My passion for education stems from a desire to equip the next generation with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the world while staying rooted in our unique heritage.
As a proud Guyanese, I cherish the connections we have across the globe. Whether it’s sharing a hearty meal of cook-up rice with friends or celebrating the bright colors of Mashramani, I strive to instill a sense of pride in my students about their identity and roots. I often draw upon local landmarks, like the Pomeroon River and the nearby forests, to inspire curiosity and respect for our environment. In this diaspora age, where many of us are far from home, I believe it’s vital to keep our culture alive.
