Welcome! My name is Washington Thomas, and I am proud to call Wakenaam, specifically the vibrant community of 12 Good Success in Pomeroon-Supenaam, my home. Growing up in this lush region of Guyana, I have come to cherish the rich cultural heritage of our people, where the echoes of our diverse ancestry blend together in the rhythm of daily life. From the vibrant colors of our markets to the aroma of freshly cooked curry and roti, my heart is deeply rooted in the flavors and traditions that define our nation.
As a resident of this beautiful land, I often find myself reminiscing about the lively gatherings where family and friends share meals featuring our beloved pepperpot, and of course, the staple dishes that make Guyana unique. Whether it’s savoring a plate of cook-up rice or enjoying a refreshing glass of peanut punch, food is a central part of our culture, bridging generations and connecting us to our diaspora. You’ll often hear laughter and stories shared at local spots, which makes our community feel like an extended family.
Having seen life in both Guyana and the diaspora, I understand the importance of fostering connections and celebrating our identity.
