About MARILYN ELIZABETH WILLIAMS

About Marilyn Williams

Greetings! I’m Marilyn Williams, a proud farmer from the beautiful Island in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and vibrant ecosystems, I’ve cultivated not only crops but also a deep connection to my heritage. My days are spent tending to my farm, where I grow a variety of local produce, including cassava, plantain, and sweet potatoes, which are staples in our traditional dishes. There's nothing quite like the scent of freshly harvested rice or a warm plate of cook-up rice enjoyed with family and friends.

In my community, we celebrate our rich culture through food, music, and storytelling. I often reminisce about gatherings near the Pomeroon River, where we share our stories and laughter, creating a sense of belonging that transcends distance. I'm inspired by the resilience of fellow Guyanese, both at home and in the diaspora, like those who feel a pull to return to their roots, reminiscent of my friend from Ghana who shares a longing for home. We are united in our love for our land, honoring our ancestors while embracing the future.

As I continue to cultivate my land, I strive to uplift my community by sharing knowledge about sustainable farming practices and preserving our local traditions. Whether it’s through planting a new crop or passing down recipes for pepperpot, I remain dedicated to nurturing not just the soil, but the spirit of our vibrant Guyanese culture.
