Hello! I’m Cherrilyn Abrams, a passionate teacher hailing from the beautiful Island of Barima-Waini in Guyana. My love for education runs as deep as the Pomeroon River, where I’ve spent countless hours appreciating the rich biodiversity that our country has to offer. Growing up in Guyana has instilled in me a profound appreciation for our local cuisine, especially the savory delights of pepperpot and roti, which I often share with my students to celebrate our heritage.
Having spent time in the diaspora, I understand the importance of keeping our Guyanese culture alive, especially through the stories we tell and the traditions we uphold. I was fortunate to connect with my roots while living abroad, where I served as Lead Deacon in my church community in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. The experiences I gained there have enriched my teaching, allowing me to bring a global perspective back to my classroom while remaining grounded in the values of our homeland.
I’m dedicated to fostering a love for learning among my students and encouraging them to explore both our local landmarks like the majestic Kaieteur Falls and the vibrant community events that unite us. In my view, education is not just about academic success but also about nurturing a sense of pride in being Guyanese, regardless of where life may take us.
