Hello! My name is Andrew Williams, and I am a logger residing in the serene Upper Pom River Left Bank in Arapiako, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant region, I learned the value of hard work and community, often spending weekends fishing in the Essequibo River or enjoying a plate of pepperpot with family and friends. Our local culture, with its rich blend of Indigenous, African, and Indian influences, has taught me resilience and the importance of staying connected to one another, even as many from our community seek new opportunities abroad.
Having traveled back and forth between Guyana and the diaspora, I’ve seen firsthand how migration impacts our country. While it’s disheartening to witness the challenges we face at home, like the need for a mindset shift towards greater consideration for one another, I believe in our potential as a community. The warmth of our people and the beauty of our landscapes—from the lush baracara islands to the bustling markets of Georgetown—remind me of what we have to cherish and improve upon together.
