Hello! My name is Leroy Fredericks, and I am proud to call River Pickers Gill in Upper Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a logger, I work closely with the lush, vibrant forests that Guyana is known for, contributing to the local economy while respecting the beautiful land that sustains us. Growing up in Guyana, I was shaped by the rich culture and traditions surrounding me. Whether it’s gathering with family to enjoy a plate of aromatic pepperpot or sharing laughter over a bowl of metemgee, food is a huge part of our identity. I find joy in the simple things, like the welcoming smiles of my neighbors and the chatter that fills the air during our lively community events. No matter where I go, the flavors and sounds of home stay with me, reminding me to focus on yuh salvation, as my community always emphasizes—Heaven mo nice!
Though I have ventured beyond our borders, I always carry a piece of Guyana with me. I believe in the strength of our diaspora, bolstering connections with fellow Guyanese and sharing our unique culture with the world. As we navigate life, I hope for change and growth, both for myself and for my homeland.
