About BISSOONNAUT SHANE BACCHUS

About Bissoonaut Bacchus

Greetings! My name is Bissoonaut Bacchus, and I am a proud educator based in the beautiful village of Baramita, located in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana. With a diverse cultural heritage that includes Indian, African, European, Chinese, and Indigenous influences, I have always valued the rich mosaic that makes up our nation. In my role as a teacher, I strive to celebrate this diversity by introducing my students not only to the academic curriculum but also to the vibrant customs, languages, and traditions that shape our shared identity.

Living and teaching in Baramita allows me to immerse myself in the breathtaking landscapes of the Guiana Shield, where the lush rainforests and majestic rivers sing stories of our ancestors. I often take my students on nature walks, where we explore the flora and fauna unique to our region while enjoying local delicacies like pepperpot and metemgee. Sharing meals is an important part of our culture, and I believe that food brings us closer together, allowing us to appreciate our differences and connections.

As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of fostering community ties, both locally and abroad. I actively engage with fellow Guyanese, whether they are in the interior, the coast, or faraway lands, to share our experiences, triumphs, and challenges. Guyana may sometimes be seen through a foreign lens, but I believe it is essential to highlight the warmth, resilience, and creativity of our people. I invite you to join me in celebrating our collective journey and the vibrant future we can build together.
