Hello! My name is Ulric Benjamin, and I proudly call the serene Island of Barima-Waini my home. As a fisherman, my days are often spent on the tranquil waters, where I gather the freshest catch, from the mouth-watering guppy to the mighty tiger shrimp, that brings flavor to our beloved Guyanese dishes. I find joy in sharing these delicacies with friends and family, especially during gatherings where we indulge in pepperpot and metemgee, surrounded by laughter and stories that span generations.
Barima-Waini is not just my location; it's a treasure trove of natural beauty, with landmarks like the stunning Kaieteur Falls, or as we affectionately say, Kai-chore. Many of us are proud of our cultural heritage, which we celebrate through music, dance, and the vibrant festivals that showcase our diverse backgrounds. Although I understand that there are challenges, such as the ongoing tensions over borders and resources, I remain hopeful for unity and understanding within our region, especially with friends from neighboring countries like Venezuela.
