Hello! I’m Bibi Khan, a passionate teacher based in the heart of Belfield, Leguan, Pomeroon-Supenaam. My journey as an educator is deeply rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of our beautiful land, I’ve always believed in the power of knowledge to uplift our communities. As I navigate the challenges and joys of teaching, I strive to inspire my students to embrace their identity and celebrate the vibrant history of our nation.
One of the things I cherish most is the diverse culinary traditions we hold dear. Whether it's a plate of pepperpot, the sweet taste of guava jelly, or the comforting aroma of dal and rice, these flavors connect us, especially for those of us in the diaspora longing for a taste of home. I often reminisce about sharing meals with family and friends, bringing everyone together around the table, just as we do during special occasions and festivals. It's these moments that strengthen our bonds and remind us of our roots.
As a proud Guyanese, I also feel a strong connection to the global community, especially those in New York City, who often express their love for our culture. Just like many of them, I, too, hope for a brighter future for our nation, recognizing both the beauty and the challenges we face. Through education and unity, I believe we can harness our collective strength to overcome obstacles and pave the way for generations to come.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
