Hello! I’m Bibi Kayum, a passionate teacher based in the heart of Essequibo, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana, I’ve always believed in the power of education to uplift and inspire. Whether it's sharing the rich history of our diverse cultures or igniting curiosity about the world beyond our shores, my goal is to empower my students to embrace their identities and explore their potential.
In my classroom, we often celebrate our Guyanese heritage through food, stories, and music. I encourage my students to connect with their roots, whether it’s by savoring a plate of pepperpot or reeling in the rhythm of soca. My own experiences living between the warm embrace of Essequibo and the bustling streets of New York, where many of our diaspora thrive, remind me of the importance of community and the love we carry for our homeland, no matter where we are in the world.
As I continue my journey in education, I cherish the connections I’ve made with fellow Guyanese both locally and abroad. From sharing laughter over a good pot of cook-up rice to reminiscing about our beautiful landmarks, every interaction strengthens our bond and showcases the warmth of our culture. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
