Hello! I’m Byranlee Edwards, a proud logger from the serene village of Karawab in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and abundant rivers, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our natural resources and the rich biodiversity that comes with them. Working in logging, I strive to balance our need for timber with the importance of preserving our environment, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the beauty of Guyana.
As a Guyanese, I cherish our unique cultural heritage, which is reflected in everything from our vibrant festivals to our delicious cuisine. Whether it’s savoring a plate of pepperpot during Christmas or enjoying a hearty meal of fish curry and rice with family, food is an essential part of my life. The Pomeroon River, with its tranquil waters, has always been a gathering place for my community, where we share stories, celebrate our achievements, and support each other in times of need.
In today’s world, I recognize the importance of staying connected with the Guyanese diaspora. Many of us have friends and family abroad, and I find pride in sharing our customs and stories with them. It’s through these connections that I hope to contribute to a greater understanding of our roots and the challenges we face. Together, we can celebrate our identity and the resilience that defines us as Guyanese, no matter where we are in the world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
