Hello! I'm Christine Persaud, a passionate teacher residing in the vibrant Essequibo Coast, specifically in the New Housing Scheme of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in such a rich cultural landscape, I've been deeply influenced by our local traditions, from the mouthwatering taste of pepperpot on special occasions to the lively rhythms of our folk music. My heart swells with pride when I think of our beautiful coastlines and the lush greenery that defines our country.
As a proud Guyanese, I cherish my roots and the unique blend of cultures that define our identity. Whether it's engaging in spirited debates about whether Guyana is part of the Caribbean, or sharing stories of our rich history, including the infamous Jonestown, I love connecting with others who share my heritage. The sense of community here is unparalleled; we often come together as “One People, One Love,” celebrating our diversity and shared experiences.
Though I now teach the younger generation, I remain connected to the Guyanese diaspora, often reminiscing about the days spent in my childhood neighborhood, enjoying a plate of roti or treating myself to the sweet taste of cassava pone. I look forward to inspiring my students and instilling the same sense of pride and love for our culture that I hold dear.
