Hello! My name is Don Wilson, a proud Guyanese sawman hailing from the beautiful Mission in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush forests and vibrant rivers of Guyana, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for our natural resources. Whether it's the rich mahogany trees or the lively chats at the local markets, my work and life are deeply intertwined with the land that has nurtured generations of my family.
As I navigate my career in the sawmilling industry, I draw inspiration from the diverse cultures that make up our nation—from the Portuguese and East Indian influences that have left a mark on our culinary landscape to the communal spirit that thrives during festivals such as Mashramani. You can often find me enjoying a plate of pepperpot or a sweet cassava pone, sharing stories with friends and family about the beauty of our four natural regions—the highlands, savannas, clay areas, and coastal plains.
Though I reside in Guyana, I maintain strong connections with the Guyanese diaspora, including many friends and family members who have ventured abroad. Their experiences inspire me, reminding me of our resilience and the pride we carry as Guyanese, no matter where we are in the world. 🇬🇾
