Hello! I’m Eustace Parris, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, specifically from Henrietta Housing in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of beautiful Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of this area has greatly influenced who I am today. I cherish the unique identity of Guyana, from our sweet cassava bread to the stunning rivers like the Pomeroon and the Warakabra that weave through our land, each telling a story of our rich heritage.
As a member of the diaspora community, I understand the importance of preserving and celebrating our local roots, whether that's through the traditional crafts of our people or the colonial-style houses that reflect our history. It’s disheartening to see new developments that neglect the environmental beauty we hold dear; I truly believe that Guyana should maintain its own distinct character, away from the cookie-cutter designs seen elsewhere. I often reminisce about my childhood days spent near River Waipaqua, enjoying the simple pleasures of life and the warmth of our close-knit communities.
Whenever I connect with fellow Guyanese, whether online or in person, it’s like a family reunion. I love sharing my experiences and hearing about how our culture resonates across borders, especially in places like Queens, New York, which is a hub for many of us.
