Greetings! My name is Ingrid Dunbar, and I proudly hail from the lush landscapes of Essequibo Coast, specifically the vibrant community of Henrietta Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam. As a dedicated teacher, I am passionate about nurturing the next generation of Guyanese youth, instilling in them the values of hard work, resilience, and cultural pride. Growing up surrounded by the beautiful rivers, like the Pomeroon and the Yarashirima, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our natural resources and the importance of preserving them for future generations.
Guyana is a place rich in diversity and tradition. From enjoying a hearty meal of pepperpot during the holidays to celebrating our colorful festivals like Mashramani, I cherish the unique culinary and cultural experiences our country offers. I often reminisce about the warmth of our community gatherings, where neighbors become family, and the stories shared transport us to other parts of our homeland. Living away from home has strengthened my connections to our diaspora, especially those in places like South Richmond Hill, Queens, where many Guyanese have built new lives while keeping our traditions alive.
In my role as an educator, I strive to create an inclusive environment where students feel valued and motivated to explore their cultural heritage.
