Hello! I’m Fabian Gonsalves, a carpenter living on the picturesque Essequibo Coast at 402 Kayman Dam in Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, where the lush landscapes are as rich as the culture and traditions we hold dear. Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I’ve always been inspired by the beautiful surroundings, from the serene waters to the bustling life in our local villages like River School Island and Lower Pomeroon. Crafting furniture and building homes, I take pride in using local materials and techniques that reflect our unique Guyanese heritage.
As someone who enjoys local delicacies, I often find myself savoring a plate of curry crab and rice or a hearty bowl of pepperpot, flavors that remind me of family gatherings and the warmth of our community. My work goes beyond just carpentry; it’s about creating spaces where families can share meals, stories, and laughter. I believe that every piece I create carries a piece of our culture, and I strive to infuse the spirit of our homeland into my craftsmanship.
Being part of the Guyanese diaspora is also important to me. I understand the challenges we face, as many of our talented individuals seek opportunities abroad. Yet, I hold onto the hope that those of us who remain can contribute to a shift in mindset, fostering a sense of community and care for one another.
