Hello! I'm Ion Richards, a proud sawman from the serene village of St. Monica in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this beautiful land where the lush greenery meets the winding rivers, and the vibrant culture thrives. Growing up, I was surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest and the warmth of a close-knit community that feels like extended family. In Guyana, it's common to call everyone 'uncle' or 'aunty', a practice that reflects our deep sense of connection and respect for one another.
As a sawman, I take pride in working with the rich timber that our forests graciously provide. The craftsmanship involved in shaping wood connects me to our heritage and to generations of artisans before me. Outside of work, I cherish the simple pleasures of life, from enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot during the holiday season to sharing stories with friends at the local dam. Our culture is a beautiful blend of influences, reminding me of the diverse backgrounds and histories that shape our community.
Though I currently live in Guyana, I feel a strong connection to the diaspora, especially to those who have ventured far but carry our traditions in their hearts. I believe in the power of unity, as seen in our various festivals and gatherings, where we come together to celebrate our identity. Whether it's through music, dance, or just sharing a meal, I embrace every opportunity to connect with both locals and fellow Guyanese abroad.
