Hello! My name is Janet English, and I proudly call Pomeroon in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a seamstress, I pour my heart into every piece of fabric, creating garments that reflect the vibrant culture and rich traditions that define our beautiful country. In my work, I often draw inspiration from the colorful patterns seen in local markets and the stunning landscapes that surround us, including the mighty Pomeroon River.
Growing up in Guyana, I have a deep appreciation for our local cuisine, especially the beloved doubles and channa that are a staple at community gatherings. I remember the disappointment of finding too little channa in a double, a sentiment many can relate to! My experiences remind me of the unity within our diverse communities, whether in the hustle and bustle of Georgetown or the serene beauty of the Pomeroon. As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with each other, sharing stories and traditions that transcend borders.
When I'm not at my sewing machine, you can find me exploring the lush surroundings of Pomeroon or connecting with friends and family, both here and abroad.
