Hello! I am Joseph Boyan, the Minister of Religion, proudly serving the community of River Waipaqua Island in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, where the lush greenery meets the flowing waters, and the aromas of our diverse cuisine—like pepperpot and cook-up rice—fill the air. I am dedicated to fostering a sense of unity and spirituality among our people, emphasizing the importance of faith in overcoming the challenges we face as a nation.
Guyana is often viewed through a different lens, some say it's not quite Caribbean, yet we proudly carry our cultural heritage, blending the influences of our Indigenous, African, Indian, and European ancestors. I believe it's crucial to highlight that while we may have our struggles, such as cleanliness and mental health issues, we are also a nation rich in resilience and hope. Like many Guyanese, I acknowledge that we sometimes critique our homeland, but it is essential to uplift each other and recognize the beauty that exists in our communities.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I remain connected to our brothers and sisters abroad, whether in Canada, the USA, or as close as Brazil. The excitement surrounding our country's potential, especially with the discovery of "black gold," has awakened a renewed sense of pride. I look forward to engaging with individuals who share a passion for our cultural heritage and those who are eager to explore the rich history of our beloved Guyana—from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the vibrant streets of Georgetown, there is much to celebrate and cherish!
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
