Hello! My name is Ravin Cornelius, and I’m proud to call River Waipaua Island Koria in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. Growing up in this vibrant part of Guyana has deeply influenced who I am today. From indulging in our iconic dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice to savoring the sweetness of fresh mangoes, the flavors of my homeland are etched in my heart. The lush landscapes and serene rivers here stir a sense of peace that I hold dear, reminding me of the beauty and tranquility that Guyana offers.
As someone who has not yet traveled extensively outside of my village, my connection to Guyana runs deep. My roots trace back to Berbice, where my mother was born, and even though I have not visited, her stories of the land, culture, and warmth of the people inspire me every day. I cherish our customs, like celebrating Phagwah with vibrant colors and laughter, and I find joy in connecting with fellow Guyanese, both at home and in the diaspora. Whether it’s through shared experiences or simply enjoying the rhythms of soca and chutney, I feel a strong bond with those who carry the spirit of Guyana wherever they go.
As I navigate life in this beautiful country, I look forward to embracing all that it has to offer, from exploring the untouched beauty of our rainforests to fostering connections with people from around the globe. I believe that every story shared adds to the richness of our community, and I am excited to contribute my own chapters while honoring the legacy of those before me.
