Greetings! My name is Karon Lewis-Grimes, and I am proud to call Demerara my home. As a dedicated teacher, I strive to inspire my students not only through education but also by sharing the rich culture of our beloved Guyana. Growing up in the vibrant community of 283 Block 8 New Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I carry the warmth of our local traditions and the unique flavors of our cuisine, from savory pepperpot to sweet black cake, into the classroom.
Guyana is a country where every corner tells a story, from the bustling streets of Georgetown to the serene landscapes along the Essequibo River. Having connections to different ethnic backgrounds, including my Indian heritage, I embrace the diversity that makes our nation so special. I often share with my students the beauty of our multiple accents and dialects, a reflection of our rich history and cultural intersections. As a proud member of the Guyanese diaspora, I enjoy connecting with others who share my roots, whether it’s celebrating Independence Day or simply reminiscing about the flavorful dishes that remind us of our homeland.
In my spare time, you'll find me exploring local landmarks or engaging with the vibrant Guyanese community, both at home and abroad. I believe in the importance of maintaining our cultural connections, and I love hearing stories from fellow Guyanese, whether they hail from Lower Pomeroon, River Grant, or even Liberty Ave in New York. Together, we share a bond that transcends borders, and it fills me with pride to contribute to the next generation of thinkers and dreamers who carry our Guyanese spirit with them wherever they go.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
