Hello! I’m Marlon Hendricks, a proud Guyanese from the beautiful Pomeroon region in the Pomeroon-Supenaam area. I work as a miner, a profession that connects me deeply with the land and the vibrant natural resources of our country. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and rich biodiversity of Guyana, I've developed a profound appreciation for our environment and the unique cultural heritage that comes with it. Remembering the days spent sharing pepper pot and coconut bread with family is one of my fondest joys, a delicious slice of home that I carry with me wherever I go.
For me, identifying as Guyanese means embracing my roots in South America while celebrating the Caribbean spirit that permeates our culture. I often hear people say, "I don't say I'm Caribbean; I'm Guyanese from South America," and I resonate with that sentiment deeply. Our country is a blend of diverse cultures, with influences from the Amerindian communities, African heritage, and East Indian traditions, creating a vibrant mosaic of customs, languages, and foods. It's this rich tapestry that makes Guyana my favorite place on earth, where friendly smiles and warm hearts thrive.
