Growing up in Guyana, a unique blend of cultures and traditions, I’ve always been deeply connected to my roots. From the rich, spicy flavors of our local cuisine—think pepperpot and roti—to the lively sounds of our music, Guyana is not just my home; it’s a part of my identity.
As a teacher, I strive to inspire my students, encouraging them to embrace their heritage and understand the wider Caribbean context in which we live. Being part of the British West Indies and sharing historical ties with our neighbors in Suriname enriches our cultural experience. I often remind my students that even though we are physically in South America, we are culturally tied to the Caribbean, and every interaction we have with the world is colored by that connection.
In my free time, you can find me exploring the picturesque landscapes of Demerara, whether it’s a walk along the coast or a visit to the famous St. George’s Cathedral. I believe in the power of community and love connecting with the diaspora, sharing stories and experiences that highlight our beautiful country.
