Greetings! I’m Ray Smith, a proud carpenter based in the beautiful Mission, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Guyana, I've always had a passion for crafting things with my hands. There's a certain joy in shaping wood into something functional and beautiful, just like the way we transform local ingredients into our mouthwatering dishes that often spark the age-old debate: “Who’s food is better?” Whether it’s a plate of pepperpot or a serving of curry duck, Guyanese cuisine holds a special place in my heart.
When I’m not busy working on my next project, you can find me soaking up the beauty of Mainstay Lake, maybe sipping on some fresh coconut water while enjoying the serene views. The connection to my homeland runs deep, and I love sharing stories with fellow Guyanese, especially those in the diaspora who reminisce about our beloved landscapes and flavors. It’s always a delight to hear comments like “This is my Guyana?” as folks discover the incredible charm of our country, often leading to conversations about how we can bring a piece of it to the world.
As I continue my journey in carpentry, I aim to contribute to our community and celebrate our culture. I believe that every piece I create carries a bit of our heritage, whether it’s from the green fields of Lower Pomeroon or inspired by the lively gatherings that make our community unique.
