Hello! I’m Relando Smith, a proud sawman hailing from the beautiful village of Karawab in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Nestled between lush forests and winding rivers, this area is my home and inspiration. Growing up, I spent countless hours exploring the rich biodiversity of our land and learning the traditional skills of woodworking from my family. There's nothing quite like the scent of freshly cut timber or the sound of the river flowing by my workshop, and I carry that connection to my roots in everything I do.
As a Guyanese, I cherish our vibrant culture, especially our food. Whether it’s the pepperpot simmering on special occasions or the sweet aroma of cook-up rice filled with fish caught fresh from the river, each meal is a reminder of the warmth of our community. I also enjoy sharing my heritage with others, whether it’s through storytelling or simply enjoying a meal together. I often reminisce about gatherings with friends and family, celebrating life with dance and laughter, which is a core part of our Guyanese spirit.
Though I may be rooted in Karawab, I have a strong connection to the Guyanese diaspora. I’m grateful for the support and love from fellow Guyanese around the world, as we share our stories and celebrate our culture, no matter where we are. I welcome all who wish to learn more about our land, our traditions, and the beauty that is Guyana.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
