Hello! I am Rhonda Reid-Thomas, a dedicated teacher based in the lush Pomeroon region of Guyana. My love for education is only surpassed by my passion for sharing the rich culture and history of my homeland. Growing up in Pomeroon, I've had the pleasure of exploring the beautiful landscapes, from our vibrant rivers to the serene Calabash Island. My connection to this land is deep, as I believe that every child deserves to learn about our unique heritage and the diverse influences that shape our country.
In my classroom, I often incorporate local traditions, sharing stories of our people, and introducing students to the flavors of Guyana through our beloved dishes like roti and duck curry. Food is a significant part of our culture, and I love to see my students embrace these culinary delights that connect us all, even as diaspora members enjoy them afar. As we discuss our geographic positioning and historical ties to the Caribbean community, I encourage my students to recognize the importance of our identity, not just as Guyanese individuals but as proud members of the global family.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy engaging with the wider diaspora community, celebrating our shared experiences and supporting one another. I am passionate about fostering a sense of belonging and pride, whether it’s through social media connections or local events. Every day, I strive to instill a sense of hope and ambition in my students, reminding them that no matter where they go, the spirit of Guyana is always with them.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
