Hello! My name is Saiad Barakat, and I am proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. Living in Cotton Field, Anna, in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I embrace the rich cultural heritage that defines our beautiful land. Guyana, with its lush rainforests and flowing rivers, is more than a backdrop for my life; it is a vibrant canvas of community, resilience, and warmth. Our traditions, like enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot on special occasions or gathering to celebrate Mashramani, remind me of the deep connections we share.
As a porter, I meet people from all walks of life, each with their own stories and experiences. The camaraderie among my fellow Guyanese, both at home and in the diaspora, is something I cherish deeply. I often hear tales of friends who’ve settled in places like Toronto and Barbados, reminiscing about the flavors of our beloved salt fish with bake or the thrill of taking a boat ride along the Essequibo River.
