Greetings from Mission, Barima-Waini! I’m Judy Samuels, a dedicated farmer with a passion for cultivating the rich and diverse produce that our beautiful land has to offer. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Guyana, I’ve always appreciated the connection between our soil and our culture—whether it’s the vibrant flavors of our traditional dishes or the stories that echo through our communities. From the famous cassava bread to the sweet, succulent mangoes, I take pride in nurturing the crops that fuel our local kitchens and bring smiles to our families.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the bonds that tie us together, no matter where we are in the world. I have fond memories of bustling markets filled with the aroma of our beloved pepperpot and the lively conversations that arise over a plate of cook-up rice. Our culture is vibrant and resilient, and I often share these experiences with friends and family abroad, reminding them of the warmth and unity we hold dear. My cousin, known as The Singing Chef, continues to inspire me with his culinary creativity, just as my mother, Yvonne John, inspired many as one of the first Guyanese women to publish a cookbook.
Although some might say Guyana isn’t on the tourist map, I believe that our hidden gems—from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the breathtaking expanses of the rainforest—are waiting to be discovered.
