Greetings! My name is Shane Benjamin, and I am proud to call Pomeroon, Pomeroon-Supenaam, my home. As an operator, I’ve dedicated my life to supporting local industries, while playing my part in the ever-evolving landscape of Guyana’s economy. Despite the challenges that many in our community face, I believe in the resilience and strength of our people—qualities that are as deep-rooted as the lush greenery surrounding our cherished Kaieteur Falls, which we fondly refer to as “kai-chore.”
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve been shaped by our rich cultural heritage, flavored by the tantalizing spices of our cuisine, from pepperpot to cook-up rice. The warmth of our community is palpable during gatherings, where stories are shared and laughter fills the air. I take immense pride in our diverse backgrounds and the unique perspectives they bring, from the influences of our Indigenous peoples to the vibrant rhythms of our Creole and Afro-Guyanese cultures. Each meal and celebration is a reflection of this beautiful mosaic, a reminder of our shared history and collective spirit.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I remain connected to my roots while engaging with fellow nationals abroad. I understand the importance of education and advocacy in lifting our communities from poverty and strive to contribute positively to these efforts. Together, we can foster a brighter future for Guyana and ensure that our voices, traditions, and dreams continue to resonate across the globe.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
