About SUNIL CHAN

About Sunil Chan

Greetings! My name is Sunil Chan, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the 19 Public Road in Columbia, my roots trace back to the vibrant communities that thrive in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich traditions of Guyana, I celebrate our unique blend of cultures, from the delicious flavors of pepperpot and roti to the lively sounds of our folk music. The Guyanese spirit, deeply connected to our rivers and forests, is a part of my daily life.

As a resident of this beautiful region, I cherish the warmth of our community and the connections we share. Whether it's enjoying a day at the Lower Pom River or partaking in the festivities of our local festivals, every moment reinforces my pride in being Guyanese. I often reflect on our diverse heritage, where even our pronunciation of words can spark laughter, as many have shared in the joy of discovering the beauty in our dialect. It’s a reminder that while geographically we might not be classified as part of the Caribbean, our history and culture firmly connect us to the heart of the Caribbean spirit.

Through my experiences, I aim to share the essence of Guyana with others, whether through storytelling, local cuisine, or exploring our landmarks like the iconic River Calabash Island. From the bustling streets of Georgetown to the serene landscapes of our hinterlands, every corner has a story to tell. Join me on this journey as we embrace our heritage, celebrate our diversity, and connect with the wider diaspora that makes us proud to be Guyanese.
