Hello! Iām Zabida Benjamin, a dedicated teacher residing in the vibrant community of Lower Pomeroon River Grant in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up in a country that boasts the best Chinese food in South America, I often reminisce about sharing delicious meals with family and friends. From savoring the flavors of local delicacies to enjoying simple pleasures like sprinkling salt on watermelon during a hot day, food is a fundamental part of our culture that connects us all. I believe that our culinary traditions are as significant as our history, and sharing these experiences helps foster community among the diaspora.
Outside the classroom, you can find me exploring the lush landscapes of Guyana, from the serene banks of the Kamadankaro to the lively markets filled with a mix of Brazilian groceries.
