Hello! My name is Zameed Zakier, and I proudly hail from the vibrant community of Tushen, located on the East Bank Essequibo. As a passionate teacher, I believe in the power of education to transform lives and communities. Being rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Guyana, I strive to instill in my students not only academic knowledge but also an appreciation for our unique traditions and values.
Growing up in Guyana has gifted me with cherished memories, from indulging in flavorful dishes like pepperpot and metemgee to celebrating our diverse festivals that unite us as a people. I make it a point to share these experiences with my students, connecting them to our shared heritage and the stories of those who came before us. Whether it’s reminiscing about the bustling streets of Georgetown or the warmth of family gatherings over homemade cook-up rice, I aim to foster a sense of belonging and pride in our culture.
Though I currently reside in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my heart remains intertwined with the Guyanese diaspora. I understand the longing many feel to visit home, as I too cherish my trips back to experience the flavors and sounds that define us. As I continue to teach and inspire, I hope to keep our culture alive in the hearts of the next generation, ensuring that our traditions and culinary delights, like the beloved Guyanese cuisine, are celebrated and cherished both at home and abroad.
