Hello! I’m Adena Benn, a passionate teacher based on the beautiful Essequibo Coast in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. My heart beats for education and empowering our youth to embrace their heritage while exploring the world around them. Growing up in a country rich in culture and diversity, I've been inspired by the vibrant festivals, delicious delicacies like pepper pot, and the warm spirit of our people, which I strive to instill in my students every day.
As a proud Guyanese, I deeply value our connection to the Caribbean and the broader diaspora. We are one of the founding fathers of CARICOM, and I see it as essential to nurture this unity among us. Whether it’s participating in community events or sharing stories about our land of promise, I aim to foster a sense of belonging and pride in my students. Together, we celebrate our unique blend of cultures, from the influences of African, Indian, and Amerindian heritage to the vibrant music and colorful traditions that define us.
In my classroom, I encourage an open dialogue where students can share their thoughts and experiences, much like the discussions we engage in online about geography and our role in the world. I believe that education is not just about books but also about learning from one another.
